Ways to Help
Transcribe letters from the 1800s & early 1900s
The Historical Society is always looking for volunteers to assist with maintaining the historic building and grounds, working at events, and participating in the running of the organization.
Some of our volunteering options include:
helping plan or working at one of our many events
serving as a presenter for one of our history-related programs
cooking or baking for fundraisers
working in the historic house gardens
assisting with any task during our monthly work days
becoming a trustee
A while back, the Historical Society received a donation of nearly 200 letters to and from family and friends of former inhabitants of the Parks-Bentley house.
Volunteers have begun transcribing these handwritten treasures and have completed more than fifty of these pieces of history,
Even though the cursive can be difficult to decipher, the process and the rewards are gratifying, to say the least.
We are looking for "Cursive Detectives" to help us transcribe the remaining letters. AND... you can bring your laptop and work with our group at Parks-Bentley Place
OR... we can send you images of the letters to transcribe in the comfort of your own home, whenever you have a few minutes to spend.
Call Chris at 518-225-8010 for details.
